TV-specific notes

Switch out of demo or vivid mode first. Showroom and default “Vivid” picture modes boost saturation and sharpness specifically to look punchy under bright store lighting, which will make colour and uniformity checks misleading. Switch to “Standard,” “Movie,” or “Calibrated” mode before testing.

Remote navigation. Most smart TV browsers (Tizen, webOS, Google TV, Fire TV) support directional-pad navigation and a “select” button in place of clicking — use the remote’s arrow keys to reach the colour swatches and Go Fullscreen button, and the Back button to exit fullscreen if Esc isn’t available on your remote.

Motion smoothing can affect the ghosting test. TV-specific motion interpolation (“Motion Smoothing,” “TruMotion,” “Motionflow,” depending on brand) processes moving content before displaying it, which can distort the ghosting test’s result. Turn it off for an accurate reading of the panel’s native response time.

No browser on your TV? Casting or mirroring your phone’s or laptop’s browser to the TV works too, though anything drawn by the casting device (rather than the TV natively) may go through extra video processing that can mask fine defects like subtle backlight bleed. A TV’s own built-in browser, if it has one, gives the most direct result.
