Adaptive Brightness learns your habits, and fights this tool. Android’s Adaptive Brightness doesn’t just react to ambient light — it also learns from how you’ve manually adjusted brightness in similar lighting before, which can cause it to dim or brighten a full white screen unpredictably. For a stable reading while dead-pixel or uniformity testing, turn it off temporarily: Settings → Display → Adaptive Brightness.

Swipe-from-edge gestures can exit fullscreen accidentally. Many Android phones use edge-swipe gestures for “back” navigation, which can trigger while you’re trying to inspect the very edge of the screen for backlight bleed. If this happens repeatedly, temporarily switch to 3-button navigation in Settings → System → Gestures.

Chrome’s fullscreen behaviour varies by manufacturer skin. Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus and stock Android all implement the status bar and gesture-hint bar slightly differently in fullscreen web content. If a thin bar persists at the top or bottom, try “Add to Home screen” from Chrome’s menu, which opens the page without browser chrome at all.

Panel technology varies more than on iPhone. Android covers everything from budget LCD panels to flagship OLEDs — backlight bleed testing is far more relevant on Android than on an iPhone, since a meaningful share of Android phones still use LCD.
